The new glass-bottomed walkway over the rim of the Grand Canyon is set to be opened to the public later this month. It extends 75 feet over the rim and 4,000 feet above the canyon's floor.
The $30 million structure weighs one million pounds Skywalk at the canyon's remote western edge is designed to withstand 100 mile-per-hour winds and has shock absorbers to keep it from wobbling as people walk through.
The Hualapai tribe which allowed a private developer to build the structure will charge $25 dollars per person plus entry fees for the walk.
Some tribal elders have questioned the wisdom of the project on what is considered sacred ground. And one environmentalist says Skywalk is a "tacky tourist attraction."
